Our Mision
Project Shakti’s mission is to spread awareness about mental health by increasing discussions about it in South Asian communities to challenge the stigma of getting personal and professional help.
Our Vision
Here at Project Shakti, we envision a future where the South Asian community accepts the extent to which mental illness can influence the human body. A future where South Asians can proudly get professional help without the stigma surrounding them from their family and friends.
Why Shakti
In Hinduism, Shakti is a goddess who personifies cosmic energy and is the source of all life. She stands for the cosmos' energetic, dynamic, and creative parts. The divine feminine spirit that permeates everything and gives birth to all creation can also be referred to more widely as Shakti.
The lack of knowledge about mental illness is one of the key causes of the stigma around mental health in South Asian cultures, which Project Shakti hopes to address. Many members of South Asian cultures might not be familiar with the warning signs and symptoms of mental illness or may not understand the need to get help. Additionally, people may be reluctant to get help because they believe mental health problems are a sign of weakness or something to be ashamed of. Project Shakti is here to Break the Stigma!
